Welcome to the latest newsletter from ‘About Them Shoes’!
This newsletter brings both exciting and somewhat sad news for the band. We will start with the sad
As some of you may already know Andy will be off to University in September to continue along his educational road, and it goes without saying that we all wish him every success with that. A month later Will is setting off to Australia, and other exciting parts of the world, for a six months trip. It is not sure if the world is ready for this, or indeed fully appreciates what is about to descend on them, but we wish him a safe trip and a great time too. So where does that leave the band … and this is the exciting bit …
We were all very keen to arrange a final farewell gig at the Banham Barrel. As you know we have considered this to be very much our hometown venue and we wanted to say “Thank You” and “Farewell” to the Barrel in the only way we know how. So, on the 7th June we will be playing our final gig at the Banham Barrel with the current line up, and this is going to be one heck of a night! Put this date in your diary now and make sure that anything else you were thinking of doing that night is cancelled or re-arranged. If you’ve followed the band and seen them live before then you will know already how good this is going to be, and if you haven’t seen them yet, or not for a while, then get there before time runs out. Remember, 7th June 9 p.m.
The Brickmakers gig scheduled for the 24th July will go ahead as planned, so for those of you in the city who can’t get to our gigs in the country why not join us at Norwich’s Award Winning Music Pub?
And so, to the BIG Farewell gig, and another important date for your diary. Keep 13th September free at all costs, and make sure you head over to the East Harling Sports and Social Club to say a tearful goodbye to the band. It’s our first time at East Harling, but we believe this is going to be a great venue for our send-off. Get there early as the place is sure to be packed, and we are probably looking to do three sets from around 8 p.m. onwards that will include all your ATS favourites, and who knows maybe even something special for the night?!
Before all this though, don’t forget that we have two great gigs for you to join us on in the next fortnight. First of all, this Friday the 2nd May sees us at the Norfolk County Council Social Club in the grounds of the County Hall on Martineau Lane in Norwich. They have a well stocked bar with real ales at great prices and whilst it is a members club, they are very keen to meet as many of our followers as possible so let’s show them what we are all about! Admission for non-members will be only a £1, payable at the door and the fun starts at 8 p.m. Then on the following Wednesday, the 7th May we are going back to school! As you will know all the members of the band have a very close relationship with Old Buckenham High School, and the band are linking up with the school’s Rock Workshop concert where the pupils will perform in the first half of the show and About Them Shoes will play a set in the second half. It is wonderful to be able to support Tom Hilton in this way and we would love to see as many current and former pupils there on the night. So why not get in touch with all your former schoolmates and join us at the place where so many musicians learnt to play.
And that guys, as they say, is it. Due to various commitments and breaks throughout the summer months it is unlikely that there will be any more dates booked, although we are currently talking to someone about an early July gig. Naturally we’ll keep you informed on this.
Keep in touch, because we would like to!
Thank you to everyone for your support, and please continue to spread the ‘News on the Shoes’ by following us on twitter, liking us on facebook and asking your friends to subscribe to this Newsletter by sending an email to theband@aboutthemshoes.co.uk with SUBSCRIBE TO NEWSLETTER in the subject line and their email address will be added to the growing list of subscribers who automatically receive the newsletter in their inbox!
We will keep all media channels open to keep you informed on what is happening with the band members wherever they are in the world, and who knows what might happen when the boys are all back in town. The BIG reunion …. maybe!
Take care and make sure to catch us perform in the forthcoming months so that in years to come you will be able to say “I was there!”
